Ductless mini-splits are reliable most of the time, but when something goes wrong it can be harder to diagnose than a traditional system. JT’s can look at indoor heads, outdoor condensers, drain lines, remotes, and control behavior to help you decide whether repair makes sense or whether replacement should be considered.

Common mini-split problems we look at

  • Indoor head runs but no cool air or warm air comes out.
  • Water dripping or leaking from the indoor unit.
  • Outdoor condenser will not start or shuts off unexpectedly.
  • Unusual sounds, odors, or visible ice buildup on the indoor or outdoor unit.
  • Remote control issues, error codes, or sensors that do not respond correctly.
  • One zone works while another does not in multi-zone setups.

When to call about a mini-split repair

Ductless systems can be simple or complex depending on the setup. If you notice a change in performance, a leak, a code on the display, or behavior that does not match what you expect, it is worth talking through.

We will ask what the system is doing, how long it has been happening, and whether the issue is consistent or intermittent. That helps us understand urgency and whether it is a quick fix or something that needs closer attention.

What happens during a mini-split repair call

JT’s will check both the indoor and outdoor units, look at the drain line and refrigerant performance, test the controls, and identify what is causing the problem. If it is repairable and makes sense to fix, we will explain the work and cost before moving forward. If the unit is older or the repair is not practical, we will tell you that too.

You will know what is happening and what your options are before any work begins.

Repair or replace?

Sometimes a mini-split just needs a drain cleared or a sensor reset. Other times the compressor has failed or the indoor coil is damaged and replacement is the more practical path. We will walk you through both sides so you can make the call that fits your situation.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long do ductless mini-splits typically last?

Most ductless systems last between 10 and 15 years with regular use. Performance can start to decline as components age, especially if the unit has worked hard through many heating and cooling seasons.

Can you repair just one indoor head or does the whole system need attention?

It depends on what is wrong. If the issue is isolated to one indoor unit, that head can often be repaired or replaced independently. If the outdoor condenser is failing, it affects all connected zones.

Why is water leaking from the indoor unit?

Water leaks usually mean the drain line is clogged, the drain pan is damaged, or the unit is not mounted level. These are common issues and usually repairable without replacing the whole system.

What if the remote control stopped working?

Sometimes it is just a battery or pairing issue. Other times the sensor or receiver inside the unit has failed. We can test the system and determine whether the remote, the indoor unit, or both need attention.

Do mini-splits need regular maintenance?

Cleaning the filters and keeping the drain line clear can help prevent problems. If you are noticing performance issues or have not had the system checked in a few years, it can be worth looking at before something fails.

Is mini-split repair covered under warranty?

That depends on the age of the system and the type of warranty that came with it. If you have warranty paperwork, let us know and we can help you understand what may be covered.
